Rangers sign Alexander Frolov

The New York Rangers and longtime Los Angeles Kings' forward Alexander Frolov reached an agreement today on a one-year, $3 million contract.

Frolov will add some offense to the Rangers, while serving as Marian Gaborik's side-kick. Frolov, 28, spent the first seven years of his career with the Kings. A very promising young player, in his career Frolov has scored over 20 goals three times, 24 in 2003-04, 21 in 2005-06, and 23 in 2007-08. He's also scored over 30 goals twice in his career with a career-high 35 with 71 points in 2006-07 and 32 in 2008-09.

Frolov had big expectations come the 2009-10 season, but he was dissapointing, scoring only 19 goals in 81 games, a big fallout from the 32 a season prior. Now the young Russian winger will look to have a bounce-back season and redeem himself to return to his 30 goal potential. He will most likely play left wing, as right wing is patrolled by the Rangers' best player, Marian Gaborik, who scored 42 goals last season. In his career, Frolov has scored 168 goals with 381 points through his 536 career regular season games, which includes three hat-tricks (3 goals in one game). A very durable player, Frolov has not played less than 69 games in a season.

"Alex is a highly skilled player who we feel will play a key role in improving our offense and play in all situations," Rangers general manager Glen Sather said in a statement. "He is strong competitor and has the ability to play either wing position."

A good pickup for the Rangers. Frolov will add offensive power to the team and one can only imagine how much the Rangers are hoping he returns to form.
