Fan Poll decision: Roy Oswalt will end up with Yankees

How you all voted:
Yankees - 4
Nationals - 3
Mets - 2
Cardinals - 1
Braves - 0
Rangers - 0
Twins - 0

This was a close vote!

While most Yankee fans would love to see Oswalt in pinstripes, it really doesn't look like it's going to happen. The Yankees are happy with their current rotation and appear ready to sign Cliff Lee as a free agent and use money instead of dealing prospects such as Jesus Montero for Oswalt. It's been reported recently that the Astros are not ready to deal Oswalt. Teams such as the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Detroit Tigers have been named as some favorites to land the ace pitcher.

As much as I want Oswalt, I don't think the Yanks need him. Pettitte, Hughes, Sabathia and Burnett have been great so far, and I don't see a way to fit Oswalt in. As well, NL pitchers usually have difficulty transferring to the AL, so I think it's best to be cautious of how Oswalt would perform. Lastly, I'd prefer not giving up Jesus Montero for an old pitcher, case and point.

If you voted for the Nationals, I'd like to know why! Please leave a comment or drop me a message!

We'll just have to wait until July 31st.

Back-to-back bombs help Yankees beat Indians 11-2, take series

Yankees - 11 (31-20), Indians - 2 (18-31)
W - Andy Pettitte (7-1)
L - Mitch Talbot (6-4)
HR: (CLE) Jhonny Peralta (4), (NYY) Alex Rodriguez (7, grand slam), Robinson Cano (11)

The dormant offense from Minnesota woke up. During this the series, the Yankees scored a total of 37 runs. However, today's game was about Andy Pettitte. Through 7 innings, Pettitte allowed 4 hits and had 5 strikeouts while surrendering 1 run. Pettitte is off to one of the best starts in his career with an ERA at 2.48. What's more impressive is that he is doing it all at age 38. Pettitte was truly stellar in today's game. In the 7th inning however, the game broke open. With Ramiro Pena, Curtis Granderson, and Mark Teixeira on base, Alex Rodriguez hit a monster shot to center field for a grand slam to put the Yankees ahead 6-1. Then came Robinson Cano, who followed with a solo shot of his own, to put the Yankees ahead 7-1. It didn't stop there. In the 8th inning, the Yankees scored 4 more runs on hits by Francisco Cervelli, A-Rod, and Cano. A big game for A-Rod who finished 3-4 with 6 RBI. Chan Ho Park closed out the last 2 innings to give the Yankees a 11-2 win.

The action continues tomorrow as the Yankees host the Orioles at 7:05 PM.

Yankees win 7-3

Yankees - 7 (30-20), Indians - 3 (18-30)
W - AJ Burnett (6-2)
L - Tony Sipp (0-1)
HR: Mark Teixeira (8, 3-run)

What, a great day to be at the ballpark. The weather was phenomenal, and the pitching made it all the better. Yes, I was lucky to be there today as the Yankees beat the Indians, but for a while, boy, it didn't look like that was going to happen.Up until the 7th inning, when the Indians led 3-0 (Burnett only gave up 1 earned run, the other 2 scored on Jeter's E-6), Justin Masterson was looking like Roy Halladay out there. He hadn't given up any runs, and struck out 8. However, after he gave up hits to Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter hit a single to pull to within a 1-run lead. Masterson was pulled from the game and received a nice ovation. Then came in left handed reliever Tony Sipp to face Curtis Granderson. We all knew what was going to happen now. After we groaned for Girardi to let Marcus Thames hit for Granderson (who struggles so terribly against lefties) Curtis proved us wrong. He smacked a double to right, allowing Jeter to go to third, and Granderson to stop at 2nd. Then Tex came up. Everyone in the ballpark figured the inning was over after it got to 2 strikes on the struggling slugger. Then, it happened. Tex hit a monster home run shot to left field to pull ahead 5-3! The place went crazy. After the inning, Burnett came out and fanned out the next 3 hitters, pitching a complete 8 innings with 8 strike outs. 2 more runs scored for the Yanks in the bottom half of the 8th due to situational hitting. With a 7-3 lead going into the 9th, Cleveland knew it was over when Mariano Rivera came into the game and shut it down. This was an intense game going into the 7th, and was enjoyable all the way.

The two teams face off again tomorrow on Memorial Day at 1:05 PM as Andy Pettite takes on the Indians' Mitch Talbot.

Embarrassing, Joba needs to go.

Roy Halladay threw the 2nd perfect game this year, beating the Marlins 1-0.
Seriously, who else would you expect?

The Lakers currently lead the Suns 73-61 in the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
The Lakers are looking to clinch to face the Celtics in the finals for the 2nd time in 3 years.
UPDATE: Lakers win 111-103 :D yay!

Hawks beat the Flyers 6-5 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Celtics lead Magic 85-65 in 4th quarter, UPDATE: CELTICS WIN, ADVANCE TO FINALS

What a game for Nate Robinson so far! 13 points off the bench! Can the Celtics hold off the Magic to advance to the NBA Finals? Keep it here!
Update 11:17 PM: There you have it. Game over. 96-84 is your final score, as the Celtics go back to the NBA Finals. I thought Orlando had this series. Now all that's left...Go Lakers!!!

Mets scoreless streak halted at 36.2 innings

Brewers - 2 (20-28), Mets - 0 (25-24)
W - Yovani Gallardo (5-2)
L - Ryota Igarashi (0-1)
HR: (MIL) Corey Hart (10, 2-runs)

And the streak is over. After shutting out the Phillies in 3 games during the week, the Mets entered today's game with 27 scoreless innings. Going into the 9th inning, it looked like it would continue. After a beautifully pitched game by ace Johan Santana, as well as Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo, the Mets brought in Pedro Feliciano and Ryota Igarashi to send the game to extra frames. However, it would not be so. With Ryan Braun on base, and 2 out in the 9th, Igarashi served up a 2-run home run to Corey Hart, giving the Brewers the walk-off win. Even though the Mets lost, 36.2 scoreless innings is quiet a feat and they deserve to be applauded.

Biggest Hit:
Corey Hart's home run

The two face off again tomorrow at 7:10 PM EST, as the Mets send Fernando Nieve to the mound to face Manny Parra.

Yankees top Indians 8-2, improve to 10 games over .500, Cano hits a grand slam, Hughes goes 7 strong

Yankees - 8 (29-19), Indians - 2 (17-29)
W - Phil Hughes (6-1)
L - Fausto Carmona (4-3)
HR: (CLE) Russel Branyan (5, solo shot)
(NYY) Nick Swisher (9, 2-runs)
(NYY) Robinson Cano (10, grand slam)

The quiet offense from Minnesota awoke in today's win over the Indians. The Yankees scored early, on Nick Swisher's BOMB of a 2-run home run in the 2nd inning, taking an early 2-0 lead. But, the runs kept on coming. Phil Hughes looked dazzling through 7 innings and retired 8 Ks. Then came the big hit. With the bases loaded in the 7th, Robinson Cano hit a light tower home run for a grand slam, blowing the game open 8-2. From then, the Yankees would not look back. Sergio Mitre and Chan Ho Park finished the game with the last two innings, shutting out the Indians offense for the win.

Biggest hit: Cano's grand slam
Moments that made me happy: Swish's home run and Hughes' performance.
My player of the game: Robinson Cano

Game notes: Derek Jeter went 2-4, raising his average to .287. As well, Swisher and Cano went 2-4 and 3-4, respectively. Swish raised his average to .301, while Cano went up to .351 for 3rd in the AL in batting average. Finally, Curtis Granderson had a double, going 1-3 in tonight's game in his first game back.

Coverage starts tomorrow at 12:00 PM as the Yankees take on the Indians from the Bronx!

Curtis Granderson back, Randy Winn DFA'd

Today, the Yankees activated center fielder Curtis Granderson from the disabled list. Granderson has been the DL for nearly 4 weeks after he strained his groin on May 2nd while running the bases. Granderson could not be back at a better time. With a struggling Yankee offense, injuries, and the Rays running away with the division, the Yankees can only hope that Granderson can spark the offense to a win tonight against the Cleveland Indians. Joe Girardi placed Granderson in the second slot in in the lineup, a spot which now left fielder, Brett Gardner, held down while Granderson was out.

However, in order to activate Granderson the Yankees had to make a corresponding move. Rather than optioning either Ramiro Pena or Kevin Russo to AAA, the Yankees instead designated Randy Winn for assignment. They have 10 days to trade him, release him, or send him to the minors. Due to the strong play and versatility of Russo recently, the Yankees opted to release the aged veteran. I wasn't surprised that this is what they chose to do. Winn had a .213 batting average and was basically useless for the Yankees and couldn't adjust to a bench role. Best of luck to him elsewhere.

Tonight's match up pins the Yankees' Phil Hughes against the Indians' Fausto Carmona, who has seemed to revert to his 2007 self that won 19 games. A match up of two of the best pitchers in the American League right now, and the return of Granderson. First pitch at 7:05 PM!

Pandemonium at the Staples Center

One word: Amazing.

Last night's Game 5 of the Los Angeles Lakers vs the Phoenix Suns Western Conference Finals series was probably one of the best playoff games I've ever seen in my life. The reason why? The 4th quarter.

But when it got down to the final seconds is when it picked up.

13.4 seconds remaining in the game, Lakers up 101-98. Done, Game 6 here we come. Not so fast. Steve Nash shot for a 3-point shot and the ball bounced off the backboard, back to Nash, and Nash passed to Jason Richardson, who shot and bounced off the backboard. Ball goes back to Richardson only 3.5 seconds left! He shoots and makes it to tie the game 101-101! The Lakers, stunned, had to be prepared. Their 11-0 record at the Staples Center in the playoffs at stake, the Lakers proved why they've never lost at home. After a timeout, Kobe Bryant shot for a 3-point shot which bounced off the glass. 00.3 seconds left. The ball bonces off to Ron Artest who put it in for the win with 00.0 left to beat the buzzer! 103-101 Lakers win!

I was watching the game, and the place went crazy. What a game for the Lakers to take some momentum into Saturday's game, 8:30 PM EST, in Phoenix for Game 6. An insane game, to say the least.

Yankees Notes: Oswalt, Lee, Granderson, Winn & Russo

- As seen on MLBTradeRumors and according to Jon Heyman, the Yankees are reported to NOT be interested in trading for Houston Astros' ace Roy Oswalt. The Yankees, reportedly, are content with their rotation of CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Phil Hughes, Andy Pettitte and Javier Vazquez (even though he's struggling). So there goes that prediction...

- According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees would prefer to sign Seattle Mariners' ace Cliff Lee as a free agent this off season than rather give up prospects to trade for Oswalt. Makes sense to me. That's what the Yankees did with Johan Santana in 2008. They passed on trading prospects for him (which would've included Phil Hughes) and instead waited until the off season to sign CC Sabathia. We've seen how that's worked out for both sides.

- Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News tweeted that he thinks that the Yankees will designate Randy Winn for assignment to make room for Curtis Granderson when he returns. The Yankees seem to favor Kevin Russo over Winn in left field as the rookie has provided some pop off the bench for the club. However, when Granderson comes back, Russo will go back to being a utility player.

Yankees get 2-for-1, win 2 games in 1 day.

GAME 1 (continuation of last night's suspended game)
Yankees - 1 (27-18), Twins - 0 (26-19)
W - AJ Burnett (5-2)
L - Brian Duensing (2-1)
SV - Mariano Rivera (9)
HR: (NYY) Derek Jeter (5)
Two batters into the continuation of last night's game and it was over. The game restarted in the 5th inning and the second batter to come up was Derek Jeter. Jeter smacked a solo homer 399 ft into left center to give the Yankees a lead they would keep. Great pitching by both sides in this game. And even more, it would carry on to the nightcap game...

GAME 2
Yankees - 3 (28-18), Twins - 2 (26-20)
W - Andy Pettitte (6-1)
L - Jon Rauch (1-1)
SV - Mariano Rivera (10)
HR: (NYY) Nick Swisher (8)
What a thriller. After a great win in the day game, the Yanks capped the day off with another win. Andy Pettitte pitched amazingly to his 6th win of the year, holding the score at 2-2 and pitched a full 8 innings. However, this game was decided in the 9th. With 2 outs, and fans looking ahead to extra innings, Nick Swisher smashed (and I mean smashed) a solo shot to right field. Luckily, it was enough to keep the Yanks ahead and open the door for the Sandman. Other big hits in this game were a triple from Brett Gardner and a double by the rookie Kevin Russo.

The final game in the series takes place tomorrow at 8 PM EST, as the Yanks eye a sweep and send Javier Vazquez, coming off a great start against the Mets last weekend, against the Twins Nick Blackburn.

A superbowl in the swamp in 2014? (Update: We got it! Superbowl 2014 in NY!)

The ongoing debate in the NFL this off-season: Will there be a Superbowl in 2014 at the new Medowlands Stadium in New York/New Jersey?

Some think "that's crazy, no way will there be a cold weather superbowl." However, it's not as crazy as you think. Ask yourself this: What better place is there to sports' biggest game played than in the home of the NEW YORK Jets & Giants? All big things happen in New York, and a Superbowl would only make it more interesting. Today is D-Day for the vote on where the 2014 game will be hosted, and Medowlands Stadium has made it to the final round of voting. The Giants/Jets organizations have 15 minutes to make an impression of commissioner Roger Goodell and his staff. It's well known that the commissioner is in favor a cold weather Superbowl: "The 2014 Super Bowl at New Meadowlands Stadium would surely prove to be a history-making event of unmatched excitement. We understand that the main hesitation regarding a Super Bowl in our region may be the weather. We do not think this is reason alone to forgo the nation's most dynamic area." The
Jets and Giants must be happy about that for sure.

What do I think?
I think it'd be a great idea. A Superbowl played in the stadium of two of the most historic NFL teams ever? That'd be sweet. A cold Superbowl would be cool too. I'd like to see the reaction of the players when they find out: "We're playing in the swamp?!"

Get ready NFL Fans: Superbowl 2014, New Medowlands Stadium - East Rutherford, New Jersey

UPDATE 3:55 PM: The Commissioner's staff is supposedly to decide where the Superbowl will be held for 2014, today at 4:00 PM EST. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 4:41 PM: The votes are in! We got it! The 2014 Superbowl will be played at Medowlands Stadium. See more here.
A Superbowl in New York could be the greatest thing to happen to football. The game's biggest game on the world's biggest stage. Welcome to New York Superbowl 2014.

Making up for lack of yesterday posts

Hey guys, here are some posts from yesterday's headlines which I am making up for.

NBA
Magic - 96, Celtics - 92
Celtics lead series 3-1
Wow, what a game. This one had to go into overtime. I for sure thought the Celtics would win and sweep the Magic. Now, we'll have to see how the Magic respond with now a ton of momentum. Can the Magic pull off an upset?

NHL
Flyers - 4, Canadiens - 2
Flyers win series 4-1, advance to Stanley Cup Final vs Blackhawks.
Insane game! I don't think anyone thought the Flyers would make it to the cup finals, let alone Montreal make it to the Eastern Conference Final. A year of playoff upsets. I thought Montreal would have won this series after defeating both Washington and Pittsburgh. This is going to be an interesting Final series, since both teams haven't seen the Stanley Cup Finals in a long time.

Yankees fall to Mets and more scores

Baseball
Mets - 6 (22-23), Yankees - 4 (26-18)
W - Johan Santana (4-2)
L - CC Sabathia (4-3)
SV - Francisco Rodriguez (8)
HR: (NYM) Jason Bay 2 (3)
Ew. Ugly game for the Yankees. Sabathia pitched horribly, Santana pitched great. Two things that annoyed me about this game: Jason Bay and Francisco Cervelli's home run call gone wrong. Jason Bay. The guy enters the game with 1 HR on the year, (we're talking about a guy who hit 36 last year) and ALL OF A SUDDEN he wakes up from his homerless slumber and hits 2 bombs tonight. Unbelievable. And the Cervelli homerun call, that was without a doubt a homerun. Instead they called it a single. The ball hit the orange line on top of the outfield wall, declaring it a homerun according to the rules at Citi Field (which is that if the ball its the orange line it's a homerun). However, the umps thought otherwise. What happens, happens you know. Let's see how the Mets play when they come into our house next month.

Basketball
Suns - 118, Lakers - 109
Lakers lead series 2-1

Hockey
Blackhawks - 4, Sharks - 2
Chicago advances to Stanley Cup Finals

Sorry for the lack of statistics with this post, but I'm crazy tired and tomorrow is my birthday! Check in for more tomorrow!

Assessing the Roy Oswalt situation

The top story in baseball this week has been that of Roy Oswalt requesting to be traded. Oswalt, the Houston Astros' ace for the past 10 years, is tired of coming up short and not playing for a contending team. Like most players, he does not want to be part of a rebuilding process years in the making. Oswalt, easily one of the most underrated aces in baseball, has had 6 seasons with an ERA under 3.00 (including this season) and has won 20 games back to back from 2004-2005. After reaching the World Series in 2005, the Astros have not been a contending team. Now, Oswalt, 32, wants out. He wants to play for a contending team. He's listed teams he wants to play for such as: the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals. However some, such as Buster Olney, believe that it will be difficult for the Astros to deal the ace. Oswalt has two years remaining on his contract (the last year being an option) and is owed $29 million. At 32 going 33, many feel that Oswalt may not have many good years left. As well, Oswalt has pitched in the weak NL Central his whole career, causing many to be unsure as to how that would translate in the AL, where the league is no doubt tougher.
So, where are some possible places Oswalt could end up by the July 31st trading deadline?

New York Yankees
Though many are skeptical that the Yankees wouldn't be interested, I wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to make a move for the ace. With Javy Vazquez suffering from a shaky season, with the exception of this past 2 starts, the Yanks may opt for a pitcher who they feel will transition better into that spot in the rotation. As well, the Yankees would be able to make this trade without having to give up top prospect and catcher, Jesus Montero. You wonder, "how could they pull that off? Oswalt is an ace!" The answer is simple: Jason Castro. In 2008, the Astros selected catcher Jason Castro out of Stanford with the 10th overall pick in the draft. Castro, now the Astros' top prospect, is viewed as the catcher of the future. So why would they need Montero? They wouldn't. I believe a possible deal would be constructed as such: The Yankees send RHP Zach McAllister, 2B David Adams, 1B Juan Miranda and RHP David Phelps to Houston for Roy Oswalt. Imagine a rotation of Sabathia, Oswalt, Burnett, Pettitte and Hughes/Vazquez. Scary!

New York Mets
Reportedly the most interested team, the only thing stopping the Mets from making a deal is money. Could one imagine a 1-3 of Santana, Oswalt and Pelfrey? Wow. The Mets would actually have a chance of competing. So, what would the Mets have to give? My guess would be something along the lines of SS Reuben Tejada, RHP Chris Schwinden, LHP Jon Niese, and possibly RHP Kyle Allen. There's only one problem here: the money situation. The Mets are cheap right now and aren't looking to take on any more salary. As well, the team is in last place. That doesn't exactly seem like a contending team to me.

Atlanta Braves
Are the Braves going to go all out for Bobby Cox's last season? Possibly. The Braves have been rumored as a team Oswalt would approve a trade to. However, one problem the Braves have is that they have too much starting pitching. Tommy Hanson, Tim Hudson, Kenshin Kawakami, Derek Lowe and Kris Medlen all have locked down spots in the rotation. It doesn't seem like the Braves have place for Oswalt. As well, I'm not sure that they would be ready to deplete their farm system. They'd probably have to give up RHP Arodys Vizcaino, 1B Freddie Freeman, and SS Brandon Hicks.

Washington Nationals
Surprised? Thought so. Yes, the Nationals, having a decent season, are in it to win it. They've reportedly been discussing a trade for Oswalt. Imagine a rotation that would include Oswalt, Steven Strasburg, Livan Hernandez, and John Lannan? That'd be pretty good. But, will the Nationals take on Oswalt's $15 million salary? That's the real question for me. And, would Oswalt approve a trade to Washington? They'd have to give up 3B Tim Pahuta, RHP Brad Peacock, and RHP Daniel Rosenbaum. Hard to imagine Oswalt in Washington.

Texas Rangers
Would Roy approve a trade to Texas' other team? The Rangers would be an ideal fit for Oswalt. The Rangers are currently in 1st place in the AL West. As well, this would work out because Oswalt would not have to move states and he would be able to stay in Texas. The Rangers to me, are the perfect fit. That doesn't mean, however, that they are willing to make the trade. As I've said, $15 million is A LOT of money. As well, would the Rangers want to deplete one of the best farm systems in baseball? You know they'd have to give up LHP Derek Holland, 2B Matt Lawson, LHP Michael Kirkman, and OF Joey Butler.

St. Louis Cardinals
Unlikely. The Cardinals are in the NL Central. I doubt the Astros would deal within the division and want to deal with Oswalt for years to come. As well, the Cardinals don't have the pieces that the Astros would want. Their farm system is terrible.

Minnesota Twins
An ideal fit. The Twins have been searching for an ace since Johan Santana's departure. The Twins are in 1st place, and Oswalt would be a great addition. Imagine Oswalt pitching at Target Field, what a scene. The Twins are reportedly increasing payroll this year and beyond in order to contend, thus allowing them to take on Oswalt. The Twins also have a great farm system. They'd have to give 3B Danny Valencia, RHP Liam Hendricks, RHP Bruce Pugh, and 1B Brock Peterson. The Twins would be a great fit.

So what's most likely?
1. Rangers
2. Yankees
3. Twins
4. Braves
5. Mets
6. Nationals
7. Cardinals

Where will LeBron James end up next year? How you voted

Here's how you voted:
New York Knicks - 11
New Jersey Nets - 5
Chicago Bulls - 4
Cleveland Cavaliers - 2
Los Angeles Lakers - 1

Haha, well it's good to see some of you read my previous post about where I thought LeBron might land. I still think he's going to come to New York, however it's not going to be that easy. So please, tell me where you think he'll go (if you voted). Please leave me comments, I'd love to hear what you think!

(See? LeBron's in an Empire State of Mind!)

By the way, new poll is up: Where do you think Roy Oswalt will get traded?

5/22 A busy day: Track meet, Mo's New York Grill, Yankees/Mets and more

Wow, talk about a busy day. Sorry everyone for not being able to post regularly. Hope after I explain why you'll understand...

On Wednesday, my Mother booked reservations for my family and my good friend Danny at Mariano Rivera's New York Grill on Saturday (which was today) for my birthday. The reservations were for 7:00 PM. Why do I tell you this? Here's why...

This morning I had Sectionals for track. I woke up at 7:55 this morning. The bus was scheduled to leave at 8:00. Seeing the time, I jumped out of bed, ran into my parents' bedroom, woke them up, threw on my uniform and got to my school at 8:07, luckily with the bus still there. We didn't end up leaving until 8:32. Soon after that, we arrived at Byram Hills High School, where the meet was held. My first event, discus, was scheduled for a 9:30 start. I was DEAD tired. I only threw 56 feet in discus and 23 feet in shot put. Did I mention when the meet ended? Oh, let's say 5:15-ish. That's right folks, 9 hours. After frantically calling my parents, begging them to pick me up, I ultimately ended up staying the entire meet, putting our reservations in jeoperdy. Freaking out, my father changed the reservations to 7:30 PM. I got on the track bus, got to the school at 5:53 PM, had my Dad pick me up, got home, showered, and was dressed by 6:17 PM. We were ready to go. Then we had to wait till 6:45 PM for my Mother to finish getting ready to go to the restaurant. We finally left the house at 6:52 PM, en route to picking up my friend Danny. To make a long story short, we drove all the way up to New Rochelle and arrived at 7:31 PM. We had dinner (which I'll review later) and left the restaurant at 9:43 PM. After a hectic car ride, we got home around 10:15 and I had a conversation with my Dad which lasted about two hours. Now I sit here, tired as hell, and writing this to update my blog. I'd say I'm pretty dedicated.

Review of Mo's New York Grill:
Wow. You couldn't ask for a better place to celebrate your birthday. The food was fantastic, the service was great, and they had the Yankee game on. What more could you ask for? The restaurant was really eye opening. There must have been over 100 pictures of current and former Yankees hanging everywhere. I spent literally 10 minutes looking at every wall to see which players I recognized and to see what Mo had used to decorate his restaurant. It was an amazing restaurant, and great for any Yankee fan! The food was amazing, like I said above. I ordered the Filet Mignon and boy, was that good. I would've ordered two had it not been so expensive. Talk about cutting like butter. It was the best steak I think I've ever had. I highly reccommend going to Mo's.

Somers beats Nyack 19-0 to advance to second round of LAX playoffs
Wow, talk about a game. Somers wrecked them.

New York Mets - 5 (21-23), New York Yankees - 3 (26-17)
WP - Mike Pelfrey (6-1)
LP - Phil Hughes (5-1)
SV - Francisco Rodriguez (7)
HR: none
Sloppy, sloppy game by the Yanks. They had plenty of opportunities to score with men in scoring position and no out, but continuously couldn't hit the ball out of the infield. As for Phil Hughes, he pitched another straight shaky outing. I don't think this will be a long term issue though. The Mets? They capitalized on hanging pitches. What a game for Jason Bay, with 4 hits tying a career high. The last game takes place tomorrow at 8:05 on ESPN as CC Sabathia takes the ball for the Yanks and opposes Johan Santana for the Mets.

NBA PLAYOFFS
Boston Celtics - 94, Orlando Magic - 71
Celtics takes 3-0 series lead.

Yankees win 2-1, take Game 1

After a brilliant pitching performance by Javier Vazquez and two clutch hits by the rookie, Kevin Russo, the Yankees beat the Mets 2-1 in the Subway Series opener, despite a great performance by Mets first-time starter Hisanori Takahashi.

New York Yankees - 2 (26-16), New York Mets - 1 (20-23)
W - Javier Vazquez (3-4)
L - Elmer Dessens (0-1)
SV - Mariano Rivera (8)
RBI - Kevin Russo (2)

The storyline of tonight's game was Vazquez's pitching. Through 6 innings, Javy gave up 1 hit, and had 6 K's before leaving the game with a bruised finger after being hit on the hand while bunting. Earlier in the game, Kevin Russo knocked his first major league hit, setting the tone for further success from the rookie. Going into the 7th inning, with the game still scoreless, Kevin Russo came up and smacked a double, scoring Nick Swisher and Francisco Cervelli to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead. The Yankees were able to hold on. David Robertson relieved Vazquez, and was followed by a strong performance from Joba Chamberlain en route to Mariano Rivera in the 9th. However, Rivera had another shaky outing. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Rivera gave up a double to Jason Bay, followed by another double by the rookie Ike Davis. Bay scored, making the game 2-1. Up came David Wright, with a man on second and the game on the line. No matter, he grounded out to Cano, 4-3, to end the game with the Yankees on top 2-1. Congratulations to Vazquez and Russo on their big games. Be sure to tune in tomorrow as the two teams face off again, Phil Hughes for the Yanks (5-0 2.25) vs Mike Pelfrey of the Mets (5-1, 3.02) at 7:05 PM.

Positive notes:
During the telecast it was mentioned that Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson will begin a rehab assignment starting tomorrow with the AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees. It was also stated that he would be returning to the Yankees by the end of the week, a.k.a. Memorial Day Weekend (Which is the game I have tickets for! :] )

New York Yankees vs New York Mets, Game 1: Subway Series, Round 1 @ Citi Field

Ah, inter-league...
Another year, another Subway Series. Welcome to Round 1 as the Yankees vs Mets in the battle for New York's crown. You know the story this year, same as 2009. The Yankees, off to a good start and over .500 at 25-16, 2nd place in the AL East, come into the series with their best pitchers. The Mets, like last year, are below .500 at 20-22, last place in the NL East. Last year, the series began at Yankee Stadium. This year, we'll kick things off at Citi Field, as we'll see Javier Vazquez take the mound for the Bombers and Hisanori Takahashi for the Mets. Last year at Citi Field, the Yankees swept the Mets after winning 2 of 3 previously at Yankee Stadium, declaring the Yanks the winners of the Subway Series
5 games to 1.

I love inter-league. Since being introduced in the league in 1997, interleague baseball has been a great way to allow fans to see teams in different leagues that they normally wouldn't see. However, Yankees vs Mets tops all other rivalries in interleague. The two big market teams in the mecca state of baseball battling it out for bragging rights in the city. Why's it the best? They've got the best players: two premier shortstops in Derek Jeter, captain of the Yankees, and Jose Reyes, speedster for the Mets. Two of baseball's best third baseman in Alex Rodriguez and David Wright play here. You've got the runner up MVP in Mark Teixeira and the up-and-coming star in Ike Davis. And then, you've got the aces, CC Sabathia and Johan Santana. Two of the best left handed starting pitchers in baseball. Did we mention the two best closers in the game in K-Rod and Mariano Rivera? You gotta love it.

Will tonight be another repeat of last year for the Mets? Will last night's big win motivate them? Will the Yankees sweep the Mets this weekend, especially after coming off a recent 3 game losing streak? How will Javier Vazquez pitch after 9 days off? Tonight will tell the story! Yankees vs Mets tonight at 7:05!

For those of you who forgot this happened last year (Enjoy, Mets fans)

HighSchool Varsity Playoffs Round 1: Somers vs Nyack

The Postseason. Where heroes are made and legends are born. Where only the greatest plays are remembered, and the champions are never forgotten. Sadly, last year, Somers were the losers.

Last year Somers made the playoffs, having a great season led by senior Jo-Jo Marasco. The team stepped up in a big way and won sectionals. Feeling confident, they were ready and armed for the regionals game. However, it didn't end the way they expected it. They lost.

Since then, Marasco's departed for Syracuse University. Now, Somers is led by a new squad with a great nucleus of talent. Somers finished this season with a 10-6 record. Now they're back, hungry for the regional title. Will this year's team step it up? Only time will tell, as we begin the playoffs tomorrow at the Tusker Turf at 1:00 PM. Be there!

Somers wins 4-2

Hey everyone, just got back from a gorgeous day at Renegade Stadium, where the Somers Tuskers beat the Carmel Rams 4-2. Today was amazing. We got a tour of the stadium, sat in the booth, walked on the field, and we were able to get a camera shot from center field. What an awesome day. It was a little more hot than we would like (we were sweating like crazy in suits) but we took it as it was.

Chase Levi pitched an amazing ballgame. He went the complete game, giving up 2 runs and got 7 strikeouts. As well, he helped out with the bat, hitting two big triples today. He improves his record to 6-1.

I was able to see pictures and plaques of marquee big leaguers who once played for the Renegades, who are the Tampa Bay Rays single-A team. We saw pictures of Evan Longoria, James Shields, Carl Crawford, Wade Davis and many more! Today was an amazing day at the ballpark.

I'd like to thank Mike, Peter, and Brian for an awesome job with the mic and with handling the camera. Without them, this broadcast never would have happened. I'd also like to thank coaches Joe Wooten and Brian Mueller, who allowed us to ride the bus with the team, where we had a great time and many laughs. And thank you to Rick (I'm sorry I'm forgetting your last name!) for giving us a tour of the stadium, answering questions, and helping us out. What a day.

Can't wait to do it again.

Somers vs Carmel tomorrow at Hudson Valley Renegades Stadium!

I'm so excited! Finally, after waiting all week, tomorrow my commentator buddy, Mike Rossillo, and I will be doing the play by play for tomorrow's Somers vs Carmel baseball game for MSGVarsity. But it's no ordinary game: It's being played at the stadium of the Hudson Valley Renegades!

This is big news. The Renegades are the Rays single-A team, meaning Somers will be playing in a minor league stadium! I'm especially excited to go on the field. But perhaps what I'm most excited about is doing the broadcasting...from the commentator's booth! Woo! So excited to see what it's like to be a professional commentator like a Michael Kay or a Vin Scully. This is my dream job and I'm finally getting the chance to live it! The game is at 4:30 PM tomorrow at Renegades stadium and if you're free, I highly encourage you to come and watch the game or stop by and say hi to us in the booth! I'm so excited! Hopefully I'll see you there!

- Josh

Assessing the Hanley Ramirez situation

By now, I assume that most of you have heard about the Hanley Ramirez-Fredi Gonzalez dispute. For those that haven't, Hanley Ramirez reportedly did not hustle to a ground ball hit to his left. Instead, he lazily let the ball pass him. Following this, Fredi Gonzalez (the Florida Marlins manager) pulled his star shortstop from the game for his lackluster play. Ramirez shot back at the move saying that "he was hurt" after fouling a ball off of his ankle in a previous at bat. Gonzalez replied that he didn't believe Ramirez was hurt and that he was just lazy. In response Ramirez said "it's his team. He can do whatever . . . He doesn't understand that. He never played in the big leagues." Other players on the Marlins agree with Gonzalez's decision and that it sends a message. From All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla: "I think Skip needed to do what he needed to do, which was take Hanley out of the game at that time. Does that mean we love Hanley any less? No, we have all made mistakes. We've all done things like, 'Oh, maybe I shouldn't have done that.' But you move on, you move forward you get past it."

But Hanley won't move past it.

--snip--

Whoa, whoa, whoa. That crosses the line there. Why would you ever go and insult the manager? He's the one who trusts you to lead and allows you to play. Ramirez is a punk

--back--

Gonzalez again answered Hanley's latest comment saying that Ramirez needs to "apologize to me, and his teammates." To this, Ramirez said "We got a lot of people dogging it after ground balls, they don't apologize." He said that he would not apologize. Gonzalez, finally fed up, said that Ramirez would be benched until he apologized to himself and the team. The result: Ramirez was benched yesterday and probably won't play tonight. Gonzalez said today, when asked if Hanley apologized: "Not yet . . . I could care less about mine, if he apologizes to me or not, but I think he needs to address his teammates a little bit. When that happens, we are good to go."

I think this whole dispute sends a message: Hanley Ramirez is a punk. I don't care who you are, if you're as good as Hanley Ramirez or as good as Ramiro Pena, you don't insult the manager and then refuse to apologize. I agree with Fredi Gonzalez 100% on his decision. Ramirez should not play until he apologizes to everyone.

On Ramirez's "injury", if he was truly "injured" then why did he stay in the game? Usually if a guy is injured, or if the medical staff thinks he is injured, you pull the player from the game. Not the case here. I don't think Hanley was hurt, I believe that he is just lazy. He's the face of the Marlins franchise and needs to act like it. He can't keep hurting his team by sitting on the bench and not playing to help out the team. Time for Hanley to grow up and apologize. What he said to Fredi Gonzalez was unneccesary, insulting, and rude. In order for Hanley to gain his teammates' and manager's respect back, he better mature and apologize. The Marlins are a good but not great organization, and they NEED Hanley Ramirez.

Update 11:55 PM: There you have it folks. Turns out Hanley apologized prior to the start of the game and was allowed to play. Good for him. He also proved my point about the Marlins needing him. Ramirez led the Marlins to a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, and went 3-5. Hopefully he can help the Marlins get back on track.

Sources: LeBron James reaches out to Eddie Curry about playing in New York

According to the New York Daily News, prized free agent LeBron James has contacted Knicks center Eddie Curry about working out over the summer. Others are skeptical and believe it is truly to ask Curry about playing in New York.

In fact, many feel that talking to Curry may hurt the Knicks chances of signing LeBron. It's well noted that Curry and head coach Mike D'Antoni aren't the best buddies. Those in the industry feel that Curry, if LeBron asked about D'Antoni, would talk badly about the head coach. Curry has only appeared in 10 games the past 2 seasons because D'Antoni benches him. Knicks fans feel that Curry will steer LeBron away from New York. Former Knicks star Nate Robinson said that if he was never traded to the Boston Celtics, he would encourage LeBron to come to New York simply because it is a great place to play.

What do I think?
I don't think this will really hurt the Knicks chances. As I've stated earlier, I think James is going to the Knicks simply because of the money and the fame. After asking one of my good friends Russel Broderick, an avid basketball fan, if he thought LeBron would come to New York, I didn't get the reply I thought I would get. Russel told me he thought James was going to stay in Cleveland because the Knicks don't have a good supporting cast for James.

--snip--

Yes, that's true. The Knicks don't have a great supporting cast for James, but that's because they traded their stars away to clear up salary cap space in order to sign James and another star, such as Chris Bosh. Imagine Bosh and James on the same team? The Knicks would become significantly better, and probably be considered when talking about division winners. Just remember before LeBron got to Cleveland the Cavs were 29-53, and finished 7th in the NBA Central Division. After James arrived in Cleveland, the Cavs continued to get significantly better as James matured into the player he is now. In basketball, one player can change a team. I believe LeBron can make the Knicks a winner, especially if he has Chris Bosh by his side.

Don't fret Knicks fans, there's still 42 days left until free agency begins, there's tons of more recruiting that can be done.

Wouldn't that picture be something?

Somers Vs Fox Lane Broadcast

Hey guys, here is the broadcast from last Saturday's game that I did commentary for with Mike Rossilo! Check it out!

MSGVarsity Somers vs Fox Lane

Please tell me what you think!

Why are we talking about this again?

Poor, Alex Rodriguez. I'm not the only one who saw the guy hit a game tying homerun last night off one of the best closers in baseball with 2 outs in the 9th right? Alex accomplishes a feat like that, helping his team win, and this is what I see the next day from respected ESPN analyst Ian O'Connor (whom I respect greatly):

With the ball streaking like a comet across the black Bronx night, making Yankee Stadium quake like the old place always did, Alex Rodriguez flipped his bat, shot a look-at-me-now stare into the home dugout, and left this baffling question in his wake:

Why did he ever feel compelled to use "boli" in the first place?

Seriously?
Now, if you read the article, Ian goes on to praise Rodriguez, but at the end basically says "hey he made a mistake and is now forever linked to Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire." Yeah, old news. But seriously, the guy accomplishes a great feat and then the next day the steroid talk starts again? People, get over it. The guy did steroids, he's not the only one. A-Rod admitted he did it, he didn't dog around it (unless you include the Katie Couric interview). He admitted it and apologized. Most of all, he won a championship. You would think that would at least put away the steroid talk. Look, no one cares about steroids anymore, it's not a surprise when someone tests positive. Alex made a mistake and that's that, but bringing it up after he helps his team to a big win is unnecessary. I'm not saying Ian O'Connor is an unintelligent guy, he's a great writer, but I don't feel that talking about steroids was right at the time.

Marcus Thames! Walk-off Homerun! Return of the pie! Yankees win!

Wow.

I literally just walked away from the computer to watch the game after A-Rod's homerun and sat down with my Dad after Cervelli got hit. Marcus Thames came to the plate against Jonathan Papelbon, who already had given up a game tying homerun.

I looked at my Dad and said: "How much you wanna bet Marcus takes the first pitch and bombs one?"

Marcus, you didn't let me down.

Yankees win, 11-9. A Yankee classic, and a 4 hour game (I love how this happened right after I published that post on the game's longevity haha)

New York Yankees - 11 (25-13), Boston Red Sox - 9 (19-20)*
W - Javier Vazquez (2-4)
L - Jonathan Papelbon(1-3)
SV - None
HR: (BOS) J.D. Drew (6), David Ortiz (7), Kevin Youkilis (6), Victor Martinez 2 (5)
(NYY) Alex Rodriguez (5), Marcus Thames (2)

So Javy Vazquez comes in to face one batter and gets the W. Well, at least he finally got a win. What a crazy game.

See it all here:

Assessing the Yankees-Red Sox games length debate

Everyone loves a rivalry.
But how long until you can't bear watching more than 3 hours?

Not long ago did we hear long time and respected umpire Joe West complain about the length of the contests between the bitter AL East rivals, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Players shot back at the umpire, telling him that he should keep his mouth closed and that he should just roll with the game. From Yankees closer Mariano Rivera:

"It's incredible. If he has places to go, let him do something else. What does he want us to do, swing at balls? He has a job to do. He should do his job. We don't want to play four-hour games but that's what it takes. We respect and love the fans and do what we have to do and that's play our game." (CBS Sports Hardball)

Mariano is absolutely 100% correct. The Yankees should do whatever it takes to win for the fans. I'm not going to argue against that. Should Joe West stop complaining and just call the game? Yes. But is he wrong? Absolutely not.

Understand this, I'm a die-hard Yankees fan, let me emphasize die-hard, but West is correct. When I first heard of this incident I thought "Wow, he just really needs to stay quiet. It's not his place." However, after watching tonight's game, I truly realized what Joe meant by that. The game started at 7:05 PM (I fell asleep during the first inning.) Later on, I wake up and it's about 9:18 PM, Yankees leading 6-1, but they're only in the 4th inning. I was dumbfounded. On the channel guide, the game has an estimated time slot from 7-10 PM. When I saw it was the 4th inning at 9:18, I figured this game was another rivalry game. Next thing I know, the 6th inning comes around, it's 9:42. Now remember, the game is supposed to go till 10, yeah 3 more innings need to be played.

Mainly, you could blame tonight's longevity of the game on the poor pitching. Phil Hughes did NOT have his best stuff tonight. He's been dominating all season, with the exception of tonight. Diasuke Matsuzaka? Bad start, AGAIN. And it's not like the relief pitching was any better. However, right now the game is pretty much over, Yankees batting in the bottom 9th and look it's 10:49 at night, 49 minutes past scheduled programming.

For once, I agree with Joe West on the case of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry game longevity. Everybody wants a good, nail biting game, but not at the expense of 4+ hours.

UPDATE (10:54 PM): Who's ready for another HOUR? That's right fans, A-Rod just hit a game tying 2-run home-run off Jonathan Papelbon in the bottom of the 9th to tie it at 9-9.

And the hours trudge on...

BASEBALL

Minnesota Twins - 6 (23-14), New York Yankees - 4 (24-13)

Loss - Joba Chamberlain (1-2)
Save - Jon Rauch
Blown Save - Mariano Rivera (1)
HR: (Min) Jason Kubel (3, Grand slam off Rivera, winning hit), Justin Morneau (9)
Perhaps the story line of this game was the blown save by Rivera. Going into this game, the Twins were 0-13 dating back to last season, including the playoffs. I doubt the Twins expected to win with a grand slam homerun off Rivera, especially when trailing in the 8th. Yanks host Red Sox tomorrow at the Stadium.

Florida Marlins - 10 (20-18), New York Mets - 8 (18-20)
W - Ricky Nolasco (4-2)

The Mets were swept by the Florida Marlins after today's game. Starter Jon Niese left the game after 2 IP after surrendering 5 runs. After that however, the Marlins bats kept on the coming. Despite poor pitching, the Mets made a late rally to no avail. The Mets keeping seeking new ways to shake up the team, however nothing's worked. The Mets have dropped to last place in the NL East. Ovechkin vs. Crosby

Hey guys, this is an article I wrote for my school paper not too long ago. It's a hockey article based on hockey's ultimate question: Who's hockey's best player? Alex Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby?

Alex Ovechkin vs. Sidney Crosby: The Debate Continues
By Josh Handszer

Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. The Rivals. Ovi and Sid the Kid. Since both players emerged into the NHL during the 2005-06 season, they have had the media spotlight upon them. Both are #1 overall draft picks as well as Captains of their teams. Among being the game’s two best players, they are only set to get better as they mature. Their accomplishments have sparked the great debate of the NHL: Who is the better player? Some decide the 22 year-old Crosby, Canada’s golden boy and Wayne Gretzky’s heir. Other decide the Russian-born, accolade accumulating, show-boating, 24 year-old Ovechkin. They are easily comparable and also easily contrasting players. So, who is the best player in the NHL? I give my vote to:

Alex Ovechkin

Jersey: #
8
Position: Left Wing

Team Affiliated: Washington Capitals

MVP. Face of the NHL. Phenomenal. Best in the game. Powerful. Aggressive. The Human High-Light Reel. Those are the words used to describe arguably the best player in the NHL: Alex Ovechkin. Many argue that Crosby is better than Ovechkin. While arguable, I tend to believe that this is mistaken. Ovi actually leads Crosby in individual stats and shows how much better he is with his performance on the ice. Another factor which has prompted many to crown Crosby best in the game is because Crosby is from Canada, where the spot originated and where “The Great One,” Wayne Gretzky is from. While Crosby was in the minors, many believed he would be the heir to Gretzky, mainly because he is Canadian like Gretzky and that he has great skill. This furthermore increases the hype and overrates Crosby as the better player. Ovechkin,
who is from Russia, is sometimes not perceived as better because he is from Russia rather than from Canada. Hockey fans want to see Crosby become the better player because he is Canadian, like the sport. As well, the two players dislike each other, often making comments on one another’s performance on the ice and trash talking. One could not ask for more from hockey’s two best players. They are hockey’s greatest rivals.

In his career (2009-10 included), Ovechkin has a career total of 516 points and 263 goals in contrast to Crosby’s 484 points and 177 goals. Ovechkin has the greater numbers than Crosby, even though they began their careers the same season. However, one may argue about their positions. Ovechkin is a left wing while Crosby is a center. It is well known that wingers usually score more goals and accumulate more points than centers. But Crosby is considered as good if not better than Ovechkin not because of his career numbers, but because of his role in championships. In the 2008-09 season, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup after they defeated the Detroit Red Wings. To get to the Cup game they defeated Ovechkin and the Caps in the Conference Semi-Finals. At the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Crosby and Team Canada crushed Ovechkin and Team Russia 7-3 in the Quarter Finals, eventually winning the gold medal over Team USA. Crosby’s championships certainly do tell the story to why he is in the discussion. However, while Ovechkin doesn’t have the championships he does have 2 MVPs, the Rookie of the Year award, and 2 Most Outstanding Player awards.

While accolades certainly don’t stand out as much as championships do in sports when debating the best player, Ovechkin is certainly an exception. With a keen sense on the ice and an attitude committed to winning Alex Ovechkin, arguably, is the best player in the NHL. Perhaps Ovechkin will get his shot at a championship this year, as the Caps currently are in 1st place in the Eastern Conference and have the best record overall at 47-14. Wouldn’t it be great to see an Ovechkin vs. Crosby Eastern Conference final? It would truly bring out the best in both players to decide who is the best. As of now, I have to pick Ovechkin as hockey’s best player for years to come. His performance on the ice amazes hockey fans everywhere. It is truly a privilege to watch him skate. While Crosby is a fantastic player, Ovechkin is a better player skillfully. Sorry Sid the Kid, but Ovi is hockey’s savior.

Sign of the Apocolypse?

Did Mariano Rivera really just blow the game?
Wow, tough loss for the bombers.

Q & A with Somers High School RHP Jarred Bronley

Yesterday after the Somers High School baseball game vs Fox Lane, I had the privilege to interview pitcher and good friend Jarred Bronley. Today, I contacted Jarred and was able to interview him once again to get his thoughts on the season. Here is our interview:

The New York Sports Spot: Ready to get started Jarred?

Jarred Bronley: Haha oh yeah, sure.

TNYSS: First off Jarred, we know your a pitcher. Give us an insight into your repetoire and which pitch you believe to be your most effective pitch.

JB: I have a 4-seam fastball, 2-seam fastball, curve ball, and a circle-change. My fastball is my most effective pitch because it sets up the rest of my pitches.

TNYSS: You probably know where we get this question from: Jarred Bronley, starter or reliever?

JB: Wherever I am needed to win, if they need me to start, I will start and if they need me to come out of the bullpen, I will be ready for that as well. I will do anything to help get the W.

TNYSS: Obviously after this season, Chase Levi, the ace of your pitching staff, along with the rest of the seniors are leaving. How do you feel knowing you will most likely be the ace of that staff next season? Do you think you have what it takes to command the rotation next year and be the go-to guy in a big game?

JB: First off, Chase is a horse. He goes out every start and is effective. I understand that next year, my role will be the ace. Next year, in a big game, I will be doing all I can to help the team to win ballgames.

TNYSS: You know, most scouts say that shorter players have shorter lives in baseball or don't make it at all. However, there are guys like Dustin Pedroia and Tim Lincecum tearing it up in the majors. How do you, not be a big guy, react when you hear things like that?

JB: I have to ignore them because I believe height has nothing to do with how a ballplayer performs. For a pitcher, all that matters is mechanics and control. If you have good mechanics you can possibly throw hard and have less of a chance of getting injured and if you have good control of the strike zone, you can get outs without velocity. For me, my velocity comes from my legs, I have a long stride, causing me to throw harder then most pitchers my size (not including the Freak.

TNYSS: Is there a pitcher, either current or retired that you idolize?

JB: Greg Maddux and Roy Halladay, they both have a variety of pitches and can throw to both sides of the strikezone. I have a article from years back. Maddux was interviewed in it and gave his 4 commandments of pitching: 1) make balls look like strikes 2) make strikes look like balls 3) when you start losing command of the strikezone, throw slower not harder and 4) have fun.

TNYSS: How does 4 straight section titles sound?

JB: Sounds great. As Coach Wooten always told us, if we execute, we can win.

Thanks to Jarred for the interview.

Daily "What I'm listening to now.."

Good morning, as day two of the blog rolls on!

I thought I'd like to share a little information with you regarding music.
I am an AVID lover of music. If you look to the right hand section of your screen and scroll down, you'll see all the artists that I enjoy.

That being said, I would like to share my music with you, the readers. Each day (or week) I will post a video via YouTube that will enable you to listen to a song or artist that I've been currently listening to. For example, yesterday I pointed out that I have been listening to rapper Wiz Khalifa and gave you a link to his youtube video for "Name On A Cloud." To allow you to stay on this page without having to navigate to another site, I will begin to embed the videos on this page. As you can see, I've already posted the video for "Name On A Cloud" on the right section of your screen above the "About me" ---------->

I will continue to update this to share my music with you. Make sure to check the blog daily to see what I'm listening to and to read some sports! Enjoy!

Say whaaaaaaaat?!

Interesting MLB stories from 5/15

- According to MLBTradeRumors.com's Zach Links and USA TODAY, the Detroit Tigers have optioned both RHP Max Scherzer and 2B Scott Sizemore to AAA Toledo and have called up RHP Armando Galarraga and INF Danny Worth to take their spots on the roster. Scherzer has been very dissapointing this season since arriving in Detroit via the 3 way deal with that sent Curtis Granderson to the Yankees, Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy to the D-Backs, and Scherzer, Austin Jackson, Phil Coke and Daniel Schlereth to Motown. Sizemore, a rookie, was hitting .211.

- Via ESPN, the Tampa Bay Rays have designated designated hitter Pat Burrel for assignment and called up 1B/3B Hank Blalock from AAA to take this spot. They have 10 days to trade him, send him to AAA or release him. Not so much of a shocker here, but one would have thought this would have happened earlier. Blalock was hitting .388 at AAA since signing a minor league contract with Tampa over the off season.

- ESPN New York's Adam Rubin tells us The New York Mets FINALLY bumped Oliver Perez from the starting rotation and moved him to the bullpen. Perez reportedly refused an assignment to AAA. Ollie is 0-3 with a 5.94 ERA.

- Tough break for fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tony Jackson of ESPN Los Angeles reports that slugging right fielder Andre Ethier has a broken bone in his right pinkie finger. He will most likely be DL'd. Ethier was currently batting .392 with 11 HR and 38 RBI.

- The Yankees will skip Javier Vazquez's next start...again. In his last outing, Wednesday against Detroit pitching in the day portion of the doubleheader, Javy pitched his best outing of the season going 7 IP with 2 runs allowed. Now he'll be skipped again and will face the Mets at Citi Field this Friday. Many wonder if the Yankees have lost confidence in Jazy. Thank you Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York.

- Big news here. According to MLBTradeRumors.com's Mike Axisa, money appears to be the only obstacle preventing the Mets for trading for Houston Astros ace right-hander Roy Oswalt. Oswalt recently said he would waive his no-trade clause to play for a contender. The Mets would absolutely have to part ways with Fernando Martinez in order to get Oswalt in my opinion, and I would be willing, if I were Omar Minaya, to part ways. You can always sacrifice an outfielder for once in a generation pitching talent. And just think Met fans: Santana-Oswalt as your 1-2 punch. Wow.

Tackling the Giant Gorilla in the room...

Oh Where, oh where will LeBron end up...

Alright let's be honest, how many of you out there just want the NBA playoffs to come to an end?

Anybody? (Put your hands down)

My Lakers are still in the playoffs and I'm happy, thrilled you could say. But what am I most looking forward to? I'm pretty sure I'm not speaking for myself when I say FREE AGENCY. And by free agency I mean, "Where will LeBron James play next season?"
We've been speculating (and by we, I mean the sports world) since even before the season, and even during last year's NBA Finals (Lakers <3)

New York Knicks
I want the money, the money and the cars, the cars and the clothes. I suppose, I just wanna be, I just wanna be successful. - Drake, "Successful"
I think LeBron agrees with the way Drake's thinking. LeBron's previously stated that he wants to go somewhere that can win NOW. He does not want to be a part of a reclamation project that will takes years to succeed. If it's about winning, then LeBron, do NOT go to the Knicks. The Knick's are a disaster. They haven't had a winning season since 2001 and have been a corrupted organization since the Isiah Thomas era. That being said, the Knicks traded their superstars prior the end of the regular season in order to clear cap space to make a run at LeBron. Zach Randolph, gone. Nate Robinson, gone. Jamal Crawford, gone. In fact, the Knicks cleared up so much space that they could sign LeBron and ANOTHER superstar such as Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh to accompany James. Even before the season, Knicks fans were campaigning for LeBron to come to New York. From photoshopping images of him in a Knicks uniform to his picture being the back of the Post, Knicks fans have been desperate, begging the King to come to New York. If LeBron comes to New York it will be for one reason and one reason only: The Money and the Fame. Alex Rodriguez, Mark Messier, Reggie Jackson, Brett Farve are just examples of hall of fame players lured in by New York's market. New York has often been called the greatest stage in sports, and playing at Madison Square Garden for the Knicks would make LeBron a legend. If LeBron comes to New York he'll be larger than life. He'll be the NBA's highest paid player, he'll be on billboards everywhere, and he'll be bigger than New York's most recently lured best athlete, Yankees third baseman, Alex Rodriguez. LeBron coming to New York would wake up the sports world, proving New York is the place to play. Expect the Knicks to make the biggest push of any team and if they sign LeBron to accompany him with either Bosh or Wade.

New Jersey Nets
Impossible? Not so much. Likely? Nope. Though LeBron is good friends with Nets part owner and famous rapper Jay-Z, don't expect that to be the lone reason he would want to go to the Nets. The Nets are clearly in rebuilding mode. They finished with the NBA's worst record and are in no position to contend next season. However, the construction of a new arena may lure LeBron, but most likely not. A more likely target would be Wade or Bosh.

Los Angeles Lakers
The least likely of all the teams I'm posting. I love my Lakers, but c'mon, there's no place for LeBron. And are the Lakers really ready to take the spotlight off Kobe? This isn't happening, but it could. You never know, maybe the Lakers offer Lebron a one year contract so he can win a championship with Kobe. If LeBron were to go to the Lakers the rest of the NBA would surrender. Having to face the tri-fecta of James, Bryant and Gasol would make others tremble in fear. Look for the Lakers to at least sniff around LeBron.

Chicago Bulls
A surprise team here, the Bulls are rumored to be very interested in James. Searching for a player to accompany Derek Rose, the Bulls feel LeBron would be the best fit to accompany him. Having a starting line up consisting of Rose, Joakim Noa and James would be the best young starting line up in the NBA. The Bulls would become a way better team. I'd say that the Bulls have as good a chance as the Knicks.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Every fan's wish, for the guy to just stay in Cleveland. He's from Akron, Ohio and he's lived in Cleveland his whole life. It's a feel good story, the Ohio boy living there his whole life and then being drafted and playing for the hometown team. That being said, those in the industry aren't sure LeBron will stick with the Cavs. After failing in the playoffs the last few years, many wonder if the Cavs are dysfunctional, having the best record this year and being eliminated by the Celtics. There has been talking that coach Mike Brown and general manager Danny Ferry may not be retained. As well, Cleveland does not have enough cap space to retain their star player. They have to make some serious changes in order to retain Mr. James. I'd have to think Cleveland has the best chance to sign LeBron.

Most likely team:
1. Cavaliers
2. Knicks
3. Bulls
4. Nets
5. Lakers

The Verdict:
New York. Pack him up, He's pretty much set. The Money and the fame lures all the big fish to New York. The Knicks have bagged the past two seasons in order to make a run at LeBron and this is the year it will all pay off. Expect LeBron to be the highest paid player ever and for the Knicks to accompany LeBron with Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh.

Only time can tell. 46 days away.

...oh where, oh where will he be?

Want some good music? What I'm listening to now:

A Day well spent...

You truly couldn't ask for a better day.
The weather was wonderful, the grass was greener, and the smell of summer creeps closer and closer. That being said, today was a great day. First off, my New York Yankees trampled the Minnesota Twins 7-1 and second I was able to do what I love today: broadcasting.
Today was Senior Day at Somers High School for all school sports, a part of Somersfest, an annual day in which all the school teams have an event on the same day and celebrate their seniors. Today, I had the honor of working in the booth with Somers High's very own Mike Rossilo and MSGVarsity's Frank Licassio to call the Somers Tuskers Vs Fox Lane Varisty Baseball game. We had a great time watching the game and doing color commentary as the game progressed. Mike called balls and strikes while I added in analysis, statistics and more. It was a beautiful day for baseball, an even better day for Senior Day. Jake Levine, a senior, smacked two homeruns to put his team ahead twice after a shaky outing by starting pitcher Chase Levi. Reliever Jarred Bronley shut down the opposition after Levi departed, setting the table for Somers to come from behind and win 9-5. It was well played game for both teams.

Then I got to interview my good friend Jarred Bronley. I asked Jarred about his mindset when he enters a game: "Throw strikes and that's it. You don't want to think much, just throw strikes, get outs and move on. You want a quick inning and want to avoid runs." I proceeded to ask him how he felt having to come in trailing 5-4 in the 6th inning and how much pressure he felt having to keep his team within one run: "No pressure. Like I said before, you throw strikes, get the ball over the plate and try to avenge your teammates. I don't feel any pressure when I come into a game because I know my teammates have my back." On Jake Levine: "Wow, he had a great game for us. Two homeruns is crazy." On this upcoming Thursday's matchup vs Carmel at Renegades Stadium: "Stoked. Beyond belief."

Truly a great day, and not just because I commented the game, but because I commented my friends. Stay tuned.
