Yankees win 7-3

Yankees - 7 (30-20), Indians - 3 (18-30)
W - AJ Burnett (6-2)
L - Tony Sipp (0-1)
HR: Mark Teixeira (8, 3-run)

What, a great day to be at the ballpark. The weather was phenomenal, and the pitching made it all the better. Yes, I was lucky to be there today as the Yankees beat the Indians, but for a while, boy, it didn't look like that was going to happen.Up until the 7th inning, when the Indians led 3-0 (Burnett only gave up 1 earned run, the other 2 scored on Jeter's E-6), Justin Masterson was looking like Roy Halladay out there. He hadn't given up any runs, and struck out 8. However, after he gave up hits to Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter hit a single to pull to within a 1-run lead. Masterson was pulled from the game and received a nice ovation. Then came in left handed reliever Tony Sipp to face Curtis Granderson. We all knew what was going to happen now. After we groaned for Girardi to let Marcus Thames hit for Granderson (who struggles so terribly against lefties) Curtis proved us wrong. He smacked a double to right, allowing Jeter to go to third, and Granderson to stop at 2nd. Then Tex came up. Everyone in the ballpark figured the inning was over after it got to 2 strikes on the struggling slugger. Then, it happened. Tex hit a monster home run shot to left field to pull ahead 5-3! The place went crazy. After the inning, Burnett came out and fanned out the next 3 hitters, pitching a complete 8 innings with 8 strike outs. 2 more runs scored for the Yanks in the bottom half of the 8th due to situational hitting. With a 7-3 lead going into the 9th, Cleveland knew it was over when Mariano Rivera came into the game and shut it down. This was an intense game going into the 7th, and was enjoyable all the way.

The two teams face off again tomorrow on Memorial Day at 1:05 PM as Andy Pettite takes on the Indians' Mitch Talbot.
