2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft Tonight!

Tonight we'll see the next wave of elite talent. Tonight is major league baseball's draft, which will be aired live at 7:00 pm ET on MLB Network. We'll see tonight's coverage of the 1st round of the draft, and possibly even see some future all-stars and hall of famers. I will be giving you live updates constantly as players are selected throughout the first round, so keep it here!

Perhaps the name most of you have heard is Bryce Harper. Called the "LeBron James of baseball" Harper has, without a doubt, the highest ceiling of any player in this draft. He's unstoppable. He's been called "one of the greatest prospects of all time" and is still only 17! He skipped his junior and senior years of high school and went for his GED at the College Of Nevada in order to be elligable for this year's draft. He is most famous for the 500 ft home run that he hit in a home run derby at Tropicana Field. You can see that video here. Harper's been recorded hitting a home run 570 ft with an aluminum bat during a high school game. If that's not a sign of greatness, I don't know what is. While it is easier to hit the ball farther with an aluminum bat, Harper also participated in a wood bat league this year. He clocked 31 home runs. He's no fluke. He's got the 5 tools in that he can hit for average and power, he can field his position, catcher, extremely well, he can run, and he can gun out base runners. While there have been questions as to if he can stay behind the plate long term, there's been no doubt in his bat. There's also been questions about his make-up. Some analysts say that he shouldn't have skipped his last two years of high school and that he is bratty. Some worry if he will ever adjust to failure in the big leagues, something he's never experienced before. However, there's no doubt that Harper will be a fun player to watch for years to come. He's expected to go #1 overall to the Washington Nationals.
